The College Experience

Are you looking to start (or maybe you have already started!) your higher education journey and are wondering what this year will bring? Throughout this blog, we will be covering the experience that you will go through when studying at college.

SIBT City Campus

Clubs, Societies and Activities

There are so many different clubs and societies that you can join! There are way too many to list, but if you have certain interests or hobbies, then it will be most likely covered by a club or society. The best part about joining is that not only are you participating in something that you are interested in, but it is also an opportunity for you to make new friends.

At SIBT, there are so many different activities which take place on a weekly basis, whether it is on campus or online. Just these past couple of months, we have had live art and bubble tea, a pizza picnic in the park, an online scavenger hunt and free food!

Friendship

One of the most amazing things about tertiary education is the people you meet. You meet people from a diverse range of backgrounds, with different ages and interests. You are studying in a field which other students are interested in too, creating the foundation for long-term friendships and to grow your network.

SIBT is located in the heart of Sydney, which is extremely convenient as it is located near restaurants, parks, cinemas and entertainment areas. It makes it easier to hang out with your new friends outside of campus and to participate in activities together. You are also close to public transport, so many areas of Sydney are easily accessible! SIBT is also very diverse, with students coming from a variety of different countries including India, China, Pakistan, Vietnam and Nepal!

Independence

One key component of college is that you will have education independence. What this means is that you are responsible for your own education. The amount of time and effort you put into your studies will show in your results. With this in mind, it is important that you are able to balance your time between your college pathway studies, social life, work and your interests/hobbies.

New Learning Style

When you were at high school, you may have had 5-6 subjects per day in a classroom, with each subject being taught for approximately an hour. Tertiary education is different. You will have a combination of lectures, tutorials and practical workshops. Your lectures are with many other students, tutorials are smaller classes and workshops are all about gaining practical knowledge and skills.

At SIBT, it is similar to other colleges but also a bit different. Why? It is because we focus on your education. Lecture rooms hold a maximum of 50 people so that you can actively engage with your lecturers. SIBT tutorials hold a maximum of 25 people so that you can get the support you need from your teacher and engage with your classmates. When you study at SIBT, you will be supported by an excellent student support team. Whether you need help with maths, English or anything in life, you will have access to the support you need to help you succeed. We spoke with Muskan, who recently started her studies at SIBT, and she said that she enjoys studying at SIBT because we have “good support and a good campus. All the people are very helpful.”  Click here to learn more about our student support services.
